Happy Halloween from your friends at Labb Homes! Before your children go trick-or-treating this year, here are some tips to make sure everyone stays safe on this fun and spooky evening!
- Trick-or-treat in your own neighborhood only, or neighborhoods you are familiar with. Talk about your route with your children before you leave, so that no one gets lost or confused along the way.
- Wear comfortable shoes you can easily walk in, even if they don’t “go” with the costume. The last thing you want is for the evening to end early after a bad trip or fall. Stick with flat shoes instead of heels, and make sure any laces are double-tied.
- Tell your children to walk, not run, from house to house. Hold hands with your littlest ones to make sure they don’t dart across the street. Children should always walk on sidewalks or on far edge of the roadway facing traffic.
- Each person in your trick-or-treating party, both kids and adults, should carry their own flashlight to illuminate their path.
- Make sure costumes are bright and reflective. If your child is dressed as a zombie, witch, or other dark and spooky creature, affix reflective strips of tape to their costume and on their shoes.
- When you get home, check your children’s candy before they dig in. Make sure all candy is unopened and undamaged, and toss any homemade treats your kids may have received.
